I put my family on the mailing list for the OLPC launch in Nov (2007). I am interested in seeing the machine work. It sounds like a good idea for people who can afford it to have 1 donated for every 1 they buy... Its kind of like how Little Ceasars pizza used to be - you pay for 1 but get 2... only in this case you pay for 2 and get one. Someone else gets the other one who would not be able to afford it... such a great concept.

Yeah, I really hope it does influence things here. In a way, it makes no sense that it shouldn't be available to anyone that should want one, though I suppose it might be due to limited availability of certain parts used, etc.

Are you sure the b&w part of the display isn't just regular lcd like in a PDA? Because I remember mine being readable in direct sunlight. I forget if it was just the black or all the colors that worked in sunlight, though. I actually read some novels on my PDA on was surprised at how it didn't strain my eyes like I thought it would. Still, faster better eInk would be great..
