I wrote Robert Scoble after seeing a post on his blog about someone else having a similar problem. He forwarded my problem to Matt Cutts at Google. Matt forwarded it to Adam Lasnik. Adam (apparently) whipped the Gmail team into shape. After a week feeling like a parapalegic, I finally got my account back. Moral of the story: reach out into the blogosphere and magic can happen! I Gmail account was hijacked.
